Message from the Chairperson: Thank You and Looking to the Future

Thank you very much for making MH2026 such a resounding success! With over 500 participants from more than 30 countries and regions around the globe, over 400 outstanding academic presentations, and the generous support of more than 30 companies, we were able to close our symposium on the highest possible note.

We were absolutely thrilled to receive so many wonderful comments. Many of you praised our warm hospitality, the comfortable atmosphere, and our strict—yet friendly—time management. You also highlighted the exceptional academic quality of the talks and posters, noting how the convenient venue layout helped foster seamless networking and intense, yet deeply respectful, discussions. Furthermore, our delicious local cuisine and diverse cultural excursions were a massive hit, perfectly complementing the truly awe-inspiring special plenary lecture by Professor Susumu Kitagawa.

Amidst a rapidly changing global landscape, and although our time together was just one short week, we are confident that we have planted the seeds for new international collaborations and cooperation that transcend various boundaries. Nothing would make us happier than knowing you took home groundbreaking ideas, new friendships, and perhaps a little extra weight (?) from all the amazing meals in Sendai. (Actually, I planned to slip in a joke here about the “2,600 bear sightings” I mentioned in the opening address, but unfortunately, it was vetoed by the Secretary-General…haha!)

Thank you once again for sharing your valuable time, passion, and expertise with us. We are incredibly excited to see how our Material-Hydrogen community will continue to evolve and shape the future. Until we meet again, we wish you all the very best of health and happiness.

Warmest regards,
Shin-ichi ORIMO
